ATTENTION PUBLIC SERVICE DIRECTOR:

HELP EDUCATE YOUR LISTENERS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF MORTAGE AND LOAN MODIFICATION SCAMS

Scam activity continues to threaten homeowners at risk of foreclosure who are stressed and vulnerable to the false promises of keeping their homes. Experts are predicting an estimated 2 million foreclosures in 2012. This tumultuous environment provides great opportunity for loan modification scam artists to prey on desperate homeowners and take their money and sometimes even their homes. With frightening regularity, they are bilking homeowners and leaving them with fewer resources, no solutions and even more problems. Many of these homeowners have turned to loan modification or foreclosure "rescue" companies for help - only to realize too late that they've been scammed. Unfortunately, some of these scammed homeowners may be your listeners.

To help educate vulnerable homeowners about this growing problem, NeighborWorks America and partners such as U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), U.S. Department of Treasury, Federal Trade Commission (FTC), U. S. Department of Justice, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, National Council of La Raza, National Urban League, National CAPACD, AARP and many others launched a nationwide public education campaign to educate and protect homeowners from unethical practices. The mission is threefold: first, alert homeowners about scams. Second, help them spot a scam before it's too late. And third, encourage them to report scammers to the authorities.

Our effort is working. Public service announcements have yielded more than 82 million impressions. Over 20,000 courageous homeowners have reported scammers to authorities since our effort began, yet this is a mere fraction of the loan modification scams committed. Together, we can prevent thousands and thousands from getting scammed in 2012. Homeowners are desperate for free, loan modification assistance they can trust. We need you to help us get them the trusted information they need.

You can help your listeners keep their money and possibly their homes. Please help educate homeowners in your listening area about the dangers of mortgage and loan modification scams by airing the public service announcement (PSA) entitled Loan Modification Scam Alert. Listeners are encouraged to visit www.LoanScamAlert.org to learn more about how to protect themselves against scams and how to report them. Please note that this PSA has no end date for use.
